A11 · SPECIALIST · 4-HOUR WORKSHOP
Space missions 2: from balloon payload to an ISS-style experiment
Teachers can write an experiment proposal a partner, a balloon provider, or an ISS education call could read.
Same as A10. Teachers aiming at a real flight or an analogue mission.
A10.
4 hours, plus a school application task
IN THE WORKSHOP
What you will explore.
- 0:00–0:40
Analogue vs flight: a stairwell, a drone, a balloon, an ISS education slot. Same science, different risk.
- 0:40–2:00
Tighten the question, the sensor, the success metric, the data table.
- 2:00–3:20
Write the two-page proposal: aim, method, mass, power, risk, school support.
- 3:20–4:00
Peer review against a flight-readiness card.
BUILD IT. USE IT.
Take the learning into class.
You leave with
- A two-page mission proposal.
- A data table ready for the first flight or analogue run.
Your school application
Submit the proposal to the school and, if appropriate, to a flight partner. File the review notes.
Allow about two hours outside the facilitated session.
Curriculum connection
Scientific method at FET level; Earth and beyond; collaborative project work.
YOUR EQUIPMENT
Tools for this module.
Payload from A10, extra xChips chosen for the question (light, air quality, accelerometer).
Confirm the equipment and software arrangements when you enquire. Specialist field activities require appropriate supervision and permissions.
