A4 · SPECIALIST · 4-HOUR WORKSHOP
Robotics with servos and motors
Teachers can drive a servo and a motor safely, and turn that into a mechanism with a purpose.
Coding & Robotics, Technology, science-club leads.
Foundation Certificate. A1 useful, not required.
4 hours, plus a school application task
IN THE WORKSHOP
What you will explore.
- 0:00–0:30
Power rules: separate motor supply, why a GPIO is not a motor driver.
- 0:30–1:30
Servo sweep, limits, a pointer or a gate.
- 1:30–2:30
Motor on/off and direction. A fan, winch or wheel.
- 2:30–3:30
Close the loop with a sensor: light or distance triggers motion.
- 3:30–4:00
Safety briefing learners must hear before the first motor lesson.
BUILD IT. USE IT.
Take the learning into class.
You leave with
- A sensor-triggered mechanism.
- A one-page motor safety card.
Your school application
Build a class challenge (sort, wave, open a gate). File the safety card used.
Allow about two hours outside the facilitated session.
Curriculum connection
Coding & Robotics robotics pillar; Technology mechanical and electrical systems.
YOUR EQUIPMENT
Tools for this module.
Springbot, servo, small DC motor or gearmotor, driver or xChip prototype board, battery pack, card or 3D linkage.
Confirm the equipment and software arrangements when you enquire. Specialist field activities require appropriate supervision and permissions.
CPTD endorsement and points are not yet confirmed. Read the CPTD information
