A7 · SPECIALIST · 4-HOUR WORKSHOP
Radio 2: a tinyGS ground station
Teachers can set up a school ground station for LoRa satellites and turn a received packet into a lesson.
Same as A6, plus any teacher running a space club.
A6.
4 hours, plus a school application task
IN THE WORKSHOP
What you will explore.
- 0:00–0:40
What tinyGS is, what a packet is, what the school will and will not hear.
- 0:40–2:00
Assemble, configure, site the antenna (roof vs window vs pole).
- 2:00–3:00
Read a packet or a recorded sample if the sky is quiet. Decode the fields.
- 3:00–4:00
A term plan: whose job is the station, how learners log passes.
BUILD IT. USE IT.
Take the learning into class.
You leave with
- A configured station or a staged build with a punch-list.
- A pass-log template.
Your school application
Run the station for two weeks. File three log entries and one learner explanation of a field in a packet.
Allow about two hours outside the facilitated session.
Curriculum connection
NS / Physical Sciences Earth and beyond; Geography; digital citizenship around shared scientific data.
