F3 · FOUNDATION · 4-HOUR WORKSHOP
On-board sensing and a fair test
Teachers can turn a sensor reading into a CAPS-style investigation with a changed variable and a recorded result.
Intermediate Phase upward. Foundation Phase teachers use a simplified path.
F2.
4 hours, plus a school application task
IN THE WORKSHOP
What you will explore.
- 0:00–0:30
Sensor as a measuring instrument, not a gadget.
- 0:30–1:30
Light, temperature, humidity: live plots in MicroBlocks, calibration talk in plain language.
- 1:30–2:30
Accelerometer: tilt, shake, orientation. A step-counter sketch and its limits.
- 2:30–3:30
Design a fair test: question, variable, method, table, claim.
- 3:30–4:00
Write the investigation card learners will use.
BUILD IT. USE IT.
Take the learning into class.
You leave with
- One investigation card ready for class.
- A short note on what the onboard sensor can and cannot claim.
Your school application
Run the investigation. Learners record results in a table. Teacher files the class table with the PDP reflection.
Allow about two hours outside the facilitated session.
Curriculum connection
Natural Sciences scientific investigations; Mathematics data handling; Coding & Robotics inputs.
YOUR EQUIPMENT
Tools for this module.
On-board light sensor, AHT20 temperature and humidity, KX022 accelerometer.
Confirm the equipment and software arrangements when you enquire. Specialist field activities require appropriate supervision and permissions.
CPTD endorsement and points are not yet confirmed. Read the CPTD information
